Legislation Update: Advocate for Full Practice Authority for Advanced Practice Nurses.
Posted 8 months ago in Legislation
Dear NJPC APNC Members and Followers,
NJPC APNC has been partnering with various organizations to support and expand NJ APN practice to Full Practice Authority. A new legislative session has begun and now is the time to join with our New Jersey partners to advocate for independent and full scope of practice.
Advanced Practice Nurses have an impeccable track record with no increase in incidences since the suspension of the joint protocol during and since Covid. Unfortunately, barriers that obstruct patient care continue. For example, NJ pharmacies refuse to honor prescriptions, joint protocol fees increase for private providers, healthcare systems impede scope of practice, and insurance companies deny claims and reimbursement.
Now is the time to reignite our resolve and determination. This is our call to action!
APN-NJ has taken the following actions this session.
- Legislative visits: Procured 2 new sponsors in the last month, visited/educated others.
- Contacted state officials in Banking and Insurance and Regulatory Boards regarding refusal of pharmacists to fill APN prescriptions without physician identifiers.
- Updated letter to Pharmacists for members to use as needed
- Attended legislative strategy meetings with JPSG Coalition of APN Colleagues
- Updated their White Paper III
APN-NJ is asking that we:
- Take one minute to Ask Your Legislators to Co-Sponsor A944 or S1983:
- Get to know, educate your legislators! Thank them if they are sponsors, educate them if they are not yet. Report back! Ask us for help if you want us to visit with you.
- NJ-APN needs financial support to assist with operating costs including their website. They are looking to raise $3000. While membership is free, they ask that you donate what you can. If interested, DONATE HERE
We thank you for being positive role models and proactive NJPC APNC members. If you have any questions or recommendations, please reach out to us via our website: New Jersey Palliative Care Advanced Practice Nurse Consortium | ENP Network
Regards,
The NJPC APNC Board
